WHO I AM While in the heat of a corporate financial career, I realized that the creative right half of my brain had suffered badly from the extreme focus on the other half for so long. I started to take some time during travels to look at the world in a different way; through a camera. My earlier work includes street photography as well as portraits taken at these specific locations. Over time, my interest has shifted towards landscapes and locations that impose an impact on me that I want to better understand, want to investigate further. Final years at the Amsterdam Photo Academy have inspired me to focus even more on impactful landscapes and how to use images as a means to share my views on the relevance ánd irrelevance of mankind’s presence on earth.
HOW I WORK A few years ago I started to replace my previous digital approach with analog film as I quite like the grain effect, that helps me add “memory” to my images. For that same reason, I shoot almost exclusively in black and white. When I take a photo, I try to capture the sense of timelessness of the moment, and of the place. I want to share how enormous and powerful the landscape is.
I am constantly exploring different ways of presenting my work, whereby I am intrigued by the effect of combining images, and printing on various types of papers and surfaces. The entire process from taking the shot to eventually presenting it takes me rather long and it includes periods that I leave the images, some still on film others printed at a large size, untouched. Sometimes, I take it back to where it was shot, as if it needs to be refreshed with the altitude, with the local light and atmosphere.
This section shows the unique works that I have created.
